6 Week Sri Lanka Surf Instructor Course
Epic waves on both the East and West Coast

Thinking about completing your surf instructor course and want to combine it with some good times, good adventures and heaps of tropical vibes?

Well this 6 week surf trip in Sri Lanka with the crew of Ticket To Ride combines both the East AND West coast of one of Asias best surfing destinations – as well as including your ISA Level 1 surf instructor course too.

So you’ll score some incredible waves on both coasts, and gain a world recognised certification.

In order to jump straight into the Surf Instructor course, you need the essential surf skills and fitness levels to gain the qualification.

You must be able to paddle out back and duck dive when needed, pop-up consistently on green waves and perform basic maneuvers, turning both left and right.

Beginning in the bustling town of Ahanghama in the South West of the country (after being picked up from Colombo Airport) you’ll experience some of the coasts best waves from your base in this bustling fishing village – from fun beach breaks through to punchy reefs and rolling points.

When you’re not busy in amongst the waves explore some of the amazing local markets or tuck into some of the incredible local cuisine that Sri Lanka is fast becoming famous for.

After 3 weeks of West Coast fun you’ll head across the country to Arugam Bay – the most famous surf spot in Sri Lanka and home to some world class right hand points where you can really put your new surf skills to the test.

Soak up the views on the scenic drive through the beautiful Sri Lankan countryside en route – and keep an eye out for the local elephants chilling as you drive by!

Before you head back to Ahangama to complete your surf instructor course you’ll head inland to discover more of the beauty of Sri Lanka. This week long Hill Country tour is the perfect opportunity to relax and rest up after 4 weeks of waves.

You’ll stop off at the likes of Ella and Kandy, visiting tea plantations, local markets, temples and even completing the sunrise hike at Adams Peak. A taste of true Sri Lankan adventure.

Then you’ll head back to Ahangama for the instructor training part of the course – where you’ll spend 5 days completing your ISA Level 1 surf instructor course as well as the ILS water safety course, both of which you’ll need to coach all over the world.

With your new certification under your belt you’ll then have a. day to relax and enjoy the waves before heading off on the next adventure.

6 weeks of epic Sri Lankan vibes and of course that ticket to turn the beach into your office!

Upon arrival you will be greeted at the airport by your Trip Leader and driven to the Surf Camp in Ahangama. Here you will be introduced to the team and given time to settle in before we tuck in to dinner and drinks ‘Sri Lanka style’.

Improve your surfing day in, day out and reap the physical and mental benefits of practicing yoga. Make the most of your surfing down time by discovering Sri Lanka’s flavourful food, welcoming people and timeless ruins.

Stock up on rotis for the seven hour journey through the most beautiful parts of the country and glimpse incredible jungle scenery! The journey itself is an adventure and without fail we’ve spotted elephants casually doing their thing on the side of the road every time.

Then it’s time to kick back and enjoy some of the best right hand point breaks in the world!

Spend the week traveling the Hill Country through Ella, Kandy and Adams Peak, visiting tea plantations, monesteries, temples, climbing the famous 5,000ft Sri Pada pilgrimage and receiving a much needed traditional ayurvedic massage before heading back to Ahangama.

Today we will be welcome other riders for the 1 Week Surf Instructor Course. While we head to Colombo to pick up the candidates, take the opportunity to relax and get ready for your course kicking off tomorrow!

Wake up and meet the group for breakfast, before hitting the classroom (beach!) with Tim Jones and his team to undertake your 2.5-day ISA training course.
Tim wil take you through all the learning modules and assessments, breaking for lunch back at the surf camp. The training day will round up in the late afternoon, then you can chill at the camp (we always have an amazing feast for dinner), check out the local scene, or head to Mirissa for an evening out!

Straight after your ISA training, your Water Safety training will kick off for 2.5-days. This will be a mixture of theory and practical, learning the essential life saving skills required to work as a surf instructor.

The course is over and you can catch your breath! This is a good chance to ask any final questions to the training team, and get all your work signed off. With the day to spare, this is the perfect time to unwind and get some waves. We will be sure to have a final feast for the whole crew!

After an epic 5-weeks exploring Sri Lanka, it’s time to get out there and start coaching! For those heading back to the airport, we will arrange your transfers, and for those travelling on around Sri Lanka we will give you all our advise and recommendations for where to surf next.
