Mandiri Beach Club is an all-inclusive surf camp sitting directly on the beach in Krui — one of the most wave-rich and underrated stretches of coastline in all of Indonesia.
The setup is hard to argue with. The headline break is right outside the door — never flat, exposed to all swells, and consistently hollow. Three minivans are on standby from first light to sundown, each with a driver and surf guide, ready to chase conditions up and down a coastline that has more quality breaks within reach than most surfers manage in a week.
Seven rooms sleeping up to 14 guests, three meals a day, and enough on-site facilities to keep things interesting between sessions.
This is a proper surf camp for surfers who are there to surf — not a wellness retreat with a board rack bolted on.
Mandiri Beach is the anchor — and it earns it. Exposed to all swells, it’s the most consistent break in the area,
Double overhead in the morning, head-high slabs in the afternoon — days like that are not unusual here.
But the wider coastline is the real drawcard. South Sumatra delivers beach breaks, peaks, slabs and points within a short drive in either direction, and the camp’s three-van setup means you’re never stuck at one spot when something better is firing elsewhere.
Jenny’s Right — best in west winds, picks up a lot of swell, a reliable low-season option.
Ujung Bocur (The Point) — the most well-known wave in South Sumatra. A long left-hander 30 minutes south, where rides of 200 metres are common.
Way Jambu (Sumatran Pipe) — 10 minutes further south. A heavy barrel machine. Bigger is better.
Krui Bay reefs — protected breaks that need size to fire, ideal for the June–October swell season.
November to May brings light, variable winds and fun, clean surf across the more exposed spots — Mandiri, Jenny’s Right and several point breaks.
June to October delivers consistently larger swells alongside the SE trade winds, pushing the focus to the more sheltered reefs and the Krui Bay breaks that come alive when the swell has some weight behind it.
When it comes to rooms, Mandiri Beach Club has seven large ensuite bedrooms sleeping up to 14 guests.
Every room has air conditioning, a private bathroom, and custom board storage — all setup with surfers in mind!
Common areas are well set up for downtime between sessions with everything you need and more.
The swimming pool and sauna with ice bath sit right on the beachfront, looking straight out over the break. There’s a large BBQ area for evening sessions, and a concrete skate park — a mini ramp flowing into a quarter pipe, short street section, and second quarter at the far end — for when the surf goes flat or you just need to move differently for an hour.
Fast WiFi throughout. Daily room servicing. 24-hour security.
The perfect surf base for Krui.
