It’s also about mingling with your fellow surfers, sharing stories and enjoying all the beauty and luxury of Ayada Maldives
Get off the beaten track and score some uncrowded Maldives perfection on this week long surf coaching retreat, hosted by one of the World Tours most famous characters – Matt “Wilko” Wilkinson.
Deep in the Southern Atolls, Ayada Resort sits amongst empty horizons, picture-perfect lineups, and a resort that ranks among the top 25 in the world. It’s well worth a little bit of extra travel time – which is exactly why Wilko chose it for this retreat.
Matt Wilkinson – aka Wilko – spent over a decade on the WSL Championship Tour — one of the best competitive shortboarders of his generation, known for power surfing, an explosive backhand, and a naturally attacking style that has seen him win at stops like Snapper and Bells.
He’s built his coaching format around the same principles — no generic tips, no group platitudes. Real feedback, in the water, and video analysis tailored to how you actually surf.
He’s also a big character and genuinely good company, which matters when you’re spending a week with someone in and out of the water.
Whether you’re on a shortboard, a fish, a mid-length or anything else — if you’re looking to take your surfing to the next level, surf with more power, more commitment and more control, you’ll walk away with the tools and knowledge, and a week’s worth of waves that you’ve already applied them to!
This retreat is built for surfers who want to progress in an intimate group format for personalised feedback as well as enjoy one of the most stunning surf destinations on the planet.
Each day is structured to give you maximum time in the water with meaningful feedback to back it up. With twice-daily surf transfers to the array of waves that surround Ayada on a private boat for the group and a video analysis session back at the resort in between, you’ll have the knowledge and the waves to push yourself to the next level.
You, Wilko and some new like-minded surf buddies.
As one of the most consistent waves in the Atoll this is always a favorite, especially for intermediate surfers. On the right swell and tide, the two main sections link up, offering a long, fun ride.
Advanced surfers will love Blue Bowls. Suitable on all tides, this leg burner will leave you with a big smile on your face for sure!
A long, rippable left which is perfect for practising turns as well as being super consistent too!
And with heaps more epic surf spots within easy reach of Ayada there’s something for all levels, conditions and swells!
Ayada’s accommodation ranges from Garden Villas through to the Royal Ocean Suite — all finished to the 5-star standard the resort is ranked for.
Every villa includes air conditioning, ensuite bathroom, private outdoor space, and direct access to the resort’s facilities and beaches – and with some of the best house reef for snorkelling just steps from your villas.
Villa options range from Garden Villas and Beach Villas for those wanting comfortable, well-appointed accommodation at a more accessible price point, through to Ocean Villas and Lagoon Villas extending out over the water to tick off that ultimate Maldives bucket list experience.
So whether you’re travelling solo, with a partner, or are brining the whole fmaily along for an unforgettable holiday, Ayada has something to suit.
If you’re not sure which villa option works for you, chat with our team and we’d be happy to help.
Ayada may sit on one of the most remote islands in the Maldives, but its dining lineup is anything but isolated.
Eight distinct outlets ensure no two evenings look the same and there’s something to suit every style and taste.
Magu, the main restaurant and the one included in your full board meal package. Magu sets the tone with a rotating themed buffet — Far Eastern, Maldivian, Mediterranean, and more — while Ocean Breeze, perched over the lagoon, delivers refined modern European cuisine for those seeking something more intimate.
Mizu brings theatrical teppanyaki to the table, Kai covers the full sweep of Asian cuisine from sushi to regional classics, and twice weekly Sea Salt transforms the beach into a candlelit barbecue under the stars.
For the perfect nightcap, Île de Joie — a tiny overwater wine and cheese bar 100 metres out over the lagoon — is in a class of its own and the perfect place to unwind after a big day in the waves.
For those looking to elevate their experience even more, upgrades to Crystal and Diamond All Inclusive packages are also available, so chat with our surf experts for more info.
Loving the idea of surfing with Wilko in the Maldives, but want to bring your partner or family along for an incredible holiday at the same time? They’ll love this week as much as you do!
The house reef is the headline act. A coral reef wraps the entire island, accessible directly from the beach at any point — no boat trip required. Blacktip reef sharks, hawksbill turtles, eagle rays and schools of colourful reef fish all call this spot home, and snorkelling equipment is complimentary.
For those who want to go deeper, Ayada’s PADI 5-star dive centre runs guided dives, night dives and certification courses across some of the finest dive sites in the southern atolls.
For those who truly want to get on island time, the AySpa is one of the largest in the Maldives — built around the only Turkish hammam in the country, with eight treatment suites, a heated vitality pool, steam rooms, sauna and more. A post-surf massage here is hard to argue with.
For families, the Zuzuu Kids Club runs 9am to 6pm daily, complimentary for children aged 4 to 12. The programme covers supervised snorkelling, swimming lessons, cooking classes, and Maldivian marine life education — with its own pool, jungle gym and stage on site.
Beyond that, there are plenty of other activities and day trips to fill your time with – jet skiing, kayaking, paddleboarding, tennis, beach yoga, sunset cruises, dolphin watching and sandbank excursions round out the options.
