If you’re planning a Nicaragua surf trip ThunderBomb Surf Camp is one of the names that comes up again and again — all-inclusive, expert local guides, boat and 4×4 access, and some of the most uncrowded lineups in Central America.
Grab your quiver and get ready to score, or add coaching if you want to level up your surfing as part of your trip.
ThunderBomb surf camp sits steps from the sand on Nicaragua’s north coast — five private beachfront rooms, a pergola facing the water, a pool and cold plunge out back, and an open-air rancho where three fresh meals a day are served and hammocks fill the corners.
Small by design, which keeps the sessions uncrowded and the experience personal.
Nothing is pre-scheduled. Every morning your local guide reads the conditions — swell, wind, tide — and calls where to go. Boat or 4×4 gets you there. The cooler comes with you. You surf.
Back at camp: food, pool, downtime, you choose how to regroup after a big morning in the ocean.
And with an optional second session in the afternoon if conditions are right, you can have your fill of waves, the guides know this coastline the way most surfers know their home break, which makes a genuine difference to the quality of waves you find across the week.
The 7-day package comes in two formats. Both are all-inclusive, and both give you the same beachfront setup and full surf access. The difference is what happens in the water and after dinner.
The full ThunderBomb experience: expert local guides, conditions-based spot selection, boat and 4×4 access to breaks you’d never reach alone, and a cooler stocked with water, fruit, beer and snacks at every session. Beach setups with shade are sorted so you can focus on the surfing.
This is the option for surfers who know what they’re doing and want quality waves in good company without the structured coaching format.
Everything in the standard package, with local coach Germán in the water with you every session and nightly video analysis after dinner.
Feedback builds from day to day — this isn’t standalone tips between sets, it’s a structured progression across the week that puts together what you’re doing right, what’s holding you back, and what to focus on the next morning. All video and photos from your stay included.
A world-class A-frame beach break throwing tropical barrels in shallow water. Hossegor without the crowds, Puerto Escondido without the size. Waist to double overhead, advanced surfers.
The camp’s favourite left point — boat access only. Multiple sections: fast walls, race tracks, barrel opportunities. Intermediate and above, best on medium to large swells.
A secret beach break that handles all swells and tides. Barrels, rarely anyone else out. Typically just the ThunderBomb crew. Intermediate and above.
Heaps of other breaks sit within an easy reach of the camp, with something for all levels and conditions, so you can be sure you’ll clock up some serious water time.
