After a scenic seaplane journey from Malé, you’ll land at Niyama and find your feet quickly — the resort is 5*, the surf is right off the island, and TJ handles everything in the water.
Daily coaching and video analysis sessions are built into every day of the retreat, alongside access to his personal quiver of surfboards — from his signature TJ Pro longboard through to the latest mid-lengths and everything in between. Surf videography is included too, so you’ll leave with memories that last a lifetime.
The retreat is open to all board riders, from late-stage beginners through to advanced surfers. You don’t need to be a competitive surfer — but you do need to be able to catch unbroken waves and navigate the lineup independently. What you get out of it will depend on where you’re starting from, but every guest leaves with a clearer picture of their surfing and genuine progress to build on.
Whether you’re here to work on your cross-stepping, clean up the lines you’re drawing or add some serious rail work to your repertoire — TJ has seen it all and coached all of it.

Vodi is the exclusive surf break of Niyama Private Islands, and this long, reeling left-hand break just off of the resort and is an easy paddle off the island. Perfect for progressing your surfing skills at and with a cocktail bar by the paddle out it’s the perfect spot to sit and watch all the action from too!
As an added bonus of the retreat, TJ will be bringing along a selection of surfboards for everyone to use too – so no need to deal with travelling with a surfboard on your international flight (we all know that can be a nightmare!), it’ll all be here waiting for you.

The evening cuisine varies nightly, so this isn’t your usual buffet either – and with live cooking stations as well, it’s the perfect way to refuel after a big day in the ocean.
And if you want to sample some of the other 9 restaurant options that Niyama has to offer, you can swap out your included dinner for a meal credit at some of the other amazing locations instead. Dine in the tree tops at Nest with its Asian fusion, or how about some South American African fusion at the Tribal, just take your pick.
