When it comes to epic surf adventures it doesn’t get much better than a dream trip to a Mentawai surf camp.
Warm waters, world class waves and more palm trees than you could ever imagine!
And if you’re on the hunt for a small group, boutique Mentawai surf camp then a stay with the crew from Driftwood Mentawai is exactly what you’ve been searching for.
Nestled amongst the palm trees of Pulau Masokut Island – with surf spot Ebays just a 150m walk from your front door, this stunning Mentawai surf resort hosts only 12 guests at a time, so you can be assured of excellent hospitality and a truly small group surf trip.
The main part of the camp consists of 1 king size room, 2 twin rooms and plenty of space to chill and socialise (or in-house wifi if you prefer to check Instagram instead of the waves!) you can enjoy this tropical paradise in comfort.
The final 2 Kingsize rooms (which each also have the option to add another single bed if needed) are beachfront – with epic views of the ocean, surf breaks and of course falling asleep to the sound of the waves!
Within a short boat ride of this epic Mentwais surf camp are heaps of world renowned waves – like Rifles, Bank Vaults, Pistols and Hideaway where big, long barrels of clear blue water break over colourful coral reef – every surfers dream.
Don’t be put off if you’re not on the hunt for pumping overhead surf – there are plenty of waves for intermediates too and spots like Burger World, Beng Bengs and Good Times offer up more forgiving waves, with long reeling walls. A good day at Burger World can see you cruising down the line for well over 150m, with the best backdrop you could ever wish for.
A typical day at this awesome Mentawai surf camp involves breakfast around 7am whilst checking the surf conditions, then at 8am the boat heads off to the best waves of the day for the group.
Once everyone is surfed out you’ll head back to the camp for a hefty lunch to refuel and relax in the midday sun amongst the palm trees.
After a siesta on a bean bag or the hammocks it’s time to load up the boats and head out to the waves again where you’ll surf until sunset – when its time to crack open the cold Bintangs, rest up and get ready to repeat it all again the next day.
The Driftwood Mentawai surf camp packages include return boat from Siberut, accommodation, daily surf boats to the surrounding breaks and 3 meals per day too.
We can even help sort your airport transfers and return fast ferry to make things even easier.
…so the only real question is, when are you joining!?
Padang Airport (Sumatra), Indonesia
Best arrival day is Wednesday for the early fast ferry on Thursday (11am arrival at the camp)
The Mentawai Islands are famed for some of the best and most consistent surf breaks in the world – here are some of the spots that you’ll be a short walk or boat ride from…
Ebay – this is the surf camps home break, just 150m walk along the beach. A reeling left hander it can hold a variety of swell, even producing some barrel selections on the right conditions
Beng Beng – just a short boat trip from the camp in the next bay this left is super fun with a forgiving take off and long reeling lefts. One of our teams personal favourites.
Burger World – this long, reeling right hander is perhaps one of the most picturesque waves in the area – peeling off a beach filled with palm trees! Working in all conditions and suitable for all levels of surfer, if the wind and swell isn’t working at other spots Burger World will no doubt have a wave.
Good Times – one of the longest lefts in the area and often described as the mirror image of Burger World. When this spots working there’s plenty of space for big turns and even some cheeky cover ups.
Pit Stops – this wedgey right hander is just a 10 minute jungle or beach walk from the camp. Expect some barrel filled take off and long fun walls.
Bank Vaults – certainly one of the heavier and more advanced surf spots in the area expect big hollow barrels. It needs a bigger swell to start working, but when it does it can give you the ride of your life.
Nipussi – this fast and shallow right hander works in a variety of swell and wind making it a good alternative to Burger World. But given the right conditions this is also a super fun wave.
The Mentawai Fast Boat is a ferry which takes around 3-6 hours (depending on the day) and departs for Siberut
Departs
Returns
With that in mind it’s always best to arrive and depart Padang a day before your booked trip.

The surfcamp has a great family atmosphere at western standards in regards of the facility and communication.
The Facility is very well decorated and has all equipment you need to have a pleasant stay.
The food was rich, delicious and plenty.
You have sufficient private space on this remote island to really calm down and appreciate the modern Robinson lifestyle.
Unfortunately I could not stay the entire time, as I had a problem with my teeth.
The team and Management was very helpful and supportive, which led me to the conclusion that this surfcamp offers an exceptional experience!
I can only recommend this Surfcamp!
Great little camp and we made some awesome new surf buddies some all over the world!
So many good sessions at Beng Bengs – will definitely be back.
Just got back from a trip to Driftwood. Had an amazing time checking out the surfspots, going for a walk in the local villages and relaxing at the bay. Nothing you ask is to much for the host and his crew. Every day fresh and delicious food! Will certainly come back 10/10!!
Supreme location, amazing host and relatively cheap. What could you want more?! 10/10 would go again
