Sri Lanka is one of the best places on the planet to learn to surf — or take your surfing to the next level.
Warm tropical water, forgiving beach breaks, a thriving surf culture on both coasts, and none of the heavy consequences of Indonesia’s reef breaks. Two coasts, two seasons, and something for every level of surfer.

The most popular Sri Lanka surf destination for good reason — Ahangama, Weligama and Mirissa sit within easy reach of each other on a stretch of coast that delivers consistent surf throughout the winter season.
Ideal for beginners learning the basics and intermediates chasing progression. Most of our surf camps are based here.
Arugam Bay is the beating heart of Sri Lanka’s east coast surf scene — a laid-back, characterful town with one of the best right-handers in the country as its main break.
A different vibe to the south coast and a perfect option for surfers visiting between May and October when the south is in wet season.
Sri Lanka’s surf is defined by variety. The south coast serves up everything from ankle-high white water on sandy bottoms to punchy reef breaks that’ll push experienced surfers. The east coast adds a different flavour entirely — longer, more powerful right-handers that reward surfers who’ve built their skills on the south coast first.
Unlike Indonesia, Sri Lanka’s reef breaks are generally more forgiving — deeper water, less consequence, and a more accessible entry point for surfers making the step up from beach breaks to reef.
It’s one of the reasons we recommend Sri Lanka so consistently for anyone looking to progress quickly.
