Well, the Boutique 5 Week Sri Lanka Surf Instructor Course ticks all the boxes for a globally recognised certification and epic island base!
Aimed at intermediate surfers (check out the info below for the full requirements) this 5 week course combines world class surf coaching, theory and video analysis and the full ISA Level 1 examination, which is accepted all over the world and is the perfect entry into your surf instructor career.
Your base for the 5 weeks is Secret Spot Villa, in Ahangama, on the South West Coast of Sri Lanka.
Newly built in 2023 this private villa boasts open plan living, A/C ensuite bedrooms and it’s own private pool, the perfect spot to relax and cool off after a long day in the waves!
Limited to just 6 spots, you have this private villa just for yourself and new surf buddies – so when you’re not enjoying the pool you can all kick back and relax on the sofa with a surf movie, or check out all your video clips again!
After successfully completing the ISA Level 1 and ILS Water Safety Course you’ll have 2 world recognised qualifications which will allow you to coach all across the globe – with former students landing jobs everywhere from Ecuador and Costa Rica to Morocco, Indonesia and Australia!
To celebrate you’ll spend your final week over on the East Coast of Sri Lanka at the famous Arugam Bay where you’ll wrap up your trip with some point break perfection.
It’s 5 weeks of luxury lifestyle, island vibes pumping waves that set you up for a career of living the dream!

In order to jump straight into the 5 Week Surf Instructor course, you need the essential surf skills and fitness levels to gain the qualification.
Prior to attending a course, participants must have completed a timed swim of 200m completed in less than 5 minutes in a pool no shorter than 25m in order to prove your water fitness is strong enough.
For your surfing, you must be able to paddle out back and duck dive when needed, pop-up consistently on green waves and perform basic maneuvers, turning both left and right.
Secure your spot with just a 10% deposit, after which a payment plan helps spread the cost of the trip over a few months, with the final balance due 2 months before the course start date
Upon arrival, you will be greeted at the airport by our driver and driven down to Secret Spot Villa on the south coast, where you’ll meet the team and your new surf buddies for the 5 weeks. Time to wash off the jetlag with a dip in the pool and kick back on island time!
For the next 3 weeks you’ll explore all the awesome breaks along this stretch of coastline and improve your surd skills under the watchful eye of your experienced coaches.
As well as beach drills, you’ll also have theory lessons alongside photo and video analysis
This week will be dedicated to your preparation for the ISA Level 1 and ILS Water Safety Courses – both of which create the foundation to your career as a surf coach.
Course presenter Chris Bond will teach you everything you need to know about lesson planning and coaching techniques as well as first aid and beach rescue.
At the end of the week you’ll take your final assessments for both.
After a busy week of exam preparation and assessments, it’s time to relax and enjoy some more waves!
You’ll head across to the East Coast for some point break perfection at Arugam Bay to celebrate the completion of your course!
