Most people visit Sri Lanka and pick a coast. This trip does both — plus the Hill Country — and in three weeks gives you a more complete picture of the country than most people manage in multiple surf trips.
Sri Lanka punches well above its weight as a surf destination. Two distinct coastlines, each with their own swell window, wave character and atmosphere, separated by a hill country interior that’s as compelling as anything in South Asia.
Warm water year-round, a local surf culture that’s been building for decades, and an island small enough to cover properly in three weeks but varied enough that each leg feels like a genuinely different experience.
Two weeks of structured surf coaching split across the east and south west coasts, with the Ticket to Ride team handling logistics, guiding and daily video analysis — so you’re not just clocking time in the water, you’re actually improving.
The final week trades the boards for buses and trains, heading inland through Hill Country scenery that feels like a completely different country altogether.
You’ll finish with a pre-dawn hike to the summit of Adam’s Peak — 5,000ft up, arriving at the top for sunrise. A fitting way to close out three weeks that cover more ground, more waves and more of Sri Lanka than most visitors ever see.

You’ll arrive into Colombo and transfer east to Arugam Bay — one of Asia’s most iconic surf towns. A long, consistent right-hander fronts a relaxed beach town that’s earned a devoted following among travelling surfers. The east coast season peaks from August to October, putting the September departure right in the sweet spot. A week of surf coaching, guided to the best breaks in the area, with photo and video analysis each session to make the water time count.
A cross-island transfer brings you to Ahangama on the South West Coast — Sri Lanka’s more established surf region, with a longer season, a different character, and a broader range of reef and point breaks to work through. Based out of the Ticket to Ride surf house, coaching continues through the week with guiding to wherever’s working best each day.
The boards get packed away and Sri Lanka’s interior takes over. Three days in Ella cover Little Adam’s Peak, Ella Rock and the famous Nine Arch Bridge, followed by Kandy and the Temple of the Tooth, a scenic train journey through tea country, and the trip closer — a pre-dawn climb to the summit of Adam’s Peak at 5,000ft, arriving at the top for sunrise. One of those travel experiences that’s difficult to describe until you’ve stood there.
