When it comes to planning your dream Maldives surf trip – picking the right Maldives surf resort is a big decision, there’s a big selection of them out there!

So to help make life a little easier we’ve put together a handy little cheat sheet so you can pick the right one for your style, budget and of course which Maldives surf spots you want to hit up!

Maldive Surf Resort Guide

Best For Goofy Footers

When it comes to going left, goofy footers don’t have so much of a selection as the likes of Indonesia – but don’t worry there’s still plenty to keep you happy on your frontside!

When it comes to the creme de la creme of left handers in the Maldives a stay at Cinnamon Dhoveli offers the exclusive chance to surf Pasta Point – one of the most consistent, fun, and best waves in the Maldives…and it’s a left!

The alternative option would be Niyama Private Islands – which has exclusive access to Vodi, a reeling left hander breaking just off the island and pre season training ground for non other than Gabriel Medina!

Best For Regular Footers

Regular footers on their front hand are spoiled for choice for solid waves in the Maldives – with the likes of Sultans and Cokes topping the list of Maldives right handers.

When it comes to the best Maldives surf resort for right handers it’s a bit of a tie between Four Seasons Huda Kuraa and Cinnamon Dhonveli – both of which have easy access to Cokes and Sultans, two of the best right handers in the Maldives!

The other alternative would be Kandooma – which has an exclusive right hander. Although personally we prefer the waves at Cokes and Sultans!

Best For Uncrowded Waves

If you really want to escape the crowds and enjoy some truly empty waves in the Maldives then you wont go wrong with a stay at Six Senses Laamu.

As the only resort in the Laamu Atoll your views across the Indian Ocean are only interrupted by pumping surf and palm tree fringed local islands!

With house reef “Jetty C” just a short paddle of the main beach and reeling right hander Yin Yangs just a short boat ride away you can score a many waves as you can handle. Oh and Machines sits just off the resort too – a super fun left hander.

Best For Families

When it comes to booking a surf trip with your family it can be a tough juggle – you want to score heaps of waves but you also need to make sure the little ones are well taken care of and entertained too!

With this in mind there are 2 Maldives surf resorts that really fit the bill.

Both Four Seasons Huda Kuraa and Six Senses Laamu include a complimentary kids club – making them ideal for families. If you’re looking to cut down on travel time though Four Seasons wins out slightly as it’s just a 25 minute boat ride from the international airport.

Best For Variety Of Surf Spots

If you’re looking for a resort which has access to heaps of spots – lefts, rights, barrells and whackable walls then you actually have a few options.

Cinnamon Dhonveli surf packages not only give you access to Pasta Point (their exclusive left hander) but you also have transfers to all the local breaks as well – which include the likes of Sultans, Honkys, Jailbreaks, Chickens, Cokes and beyond!

The other option for those wanting the choice of a variety of spots is Four Seasons Huda Kuraa – which like Dhonveli, sits right amongst the best surf spots in the North Male Atoll, although you don’t get to surf Pasta of course!

Best For Those Travelling With Non Surfers

Travelling with non surfers and wanting to make sure they have an awesome time as well?

To be honest you aren’t going to go wrong with any of the Maldives resorts on offer – they all serve up a range of day trips and tours for non surfers, from turtle snorkelling to sand bank picnics or scuba diving.

For those with a particular interest in marine life or avid scuba divers Six Senses Laamu is our pick – it has some of the best scuba diving the Maldives has to offer as well as a huge range of day trips too.

Best For Ultimate Luxury

So here’s the big question – which Maldives Surf Resort offers the ultimate in luxury, delivering all goods when it comes to that ultimate surf trip to paradise?

Well it’s a tough call but in our opinion Niyama Private Islands takes the crown on this one!

With an incredible location in the Dhaalu Atoll, private left hander, stunning accomodation and even the worlds first underwater restaurant it boasts all the luxury and decadence you’d expect from the Maldives!
